À propos du tableau
Nymphe à la source est un tableau réalisé en 1869-1870 par le peintre français Auguste Renoir. De format horizontal, cette huile sur toile est une peinture mythologique qui représente une nymphe étendue près d'un ruisseau, sans doute une naïade. Entièrement nue, la jeune femme emprunte ses traits à Lise Tréhot, modèle avec qui l'artiste entretient une relation amoureuse, de sorte que l'œuvre est également un portrait. Achetée en 1951, elle est conservée à la National Gallery, à Londres, au Royaume-Uni.

Renoir and his friends created the Anonymous Cooperative Society of Artists, Painters, Sculptors and Engravers — the future Impressionist group.

First Impressionist exhibition
Renoir took an active part in organizing the exhibition and showed a pastel and six paintings, among them "The Dancer" and "La Loge" (The Theater Box). It was at his suggestion that the catalogue carried the title of Monet's painting "Impression, Sunrise," which gave rise to the word "Impressionists."

Presenting "Portrait of Madame Charpentier and Her Children" and the full-length "Portrait of the Actress Jeanne Samary," Renoir won universal recognition, and with it financial independence.
