Watercolour illustration created for publication in a newspaper/illustrated magazine. It shows a public arena surrounded by banks of seating in the centre of which a group of soldiers, many of them mounted on horseback, are on Parade. The illustration is not dated by has been signed by the artist T.W.Holmes. The flags from a range of different countries are hanging up above the stands and this may explain why the soldiers on parade are wearing different styles of uniforms. Amongst the uniforms being worn are styles which resemble those worn by members of the British Indian Army in the late nineteenth century. Given by Sir William Ingram in 1914.
This item is one of several theatrical drawings from a collection of sketches commissioned from contemporary artists to be printed in illustrated magazines. The collection was donated to the museum by Sir William James Ingram in 1914.
