Bow Before the Curtain Falls

Zhao Mengya uses ceramics to express her emotions when dealing with a chronic health issue, for which she is supported by hearing aids. Inspired by Frida Kahlo, she made this intriguing sculpture of a dancing figure weighed down yet held up by medical apparatus. The metallic hues and earthy greens and browns of the glazes allude to both mechanical elements and nature.
