    With fellow artists and critics — Lucy Lippard, Pat Steir, Ingrid Sischy and others — he helps found Printed Matter, a non-profit art space in New York's Tribeca and one of the first organizations dedicated to creating and distributing artists' books.

    Leaves New York for Spoleto, Italy; other accounts place the move as early as the late 1970s.

    The frescoes of Giotto and Masaccio change his palette

    LeWitt credited his shift from graphite pencil or crayon to vivid ink washes to his encounter with the frescoes of Giotto, Masaccio and other early Florentine painters.
