    The Goslar Kaiserring

    In 2000 Polke received the Goslarer Kaiserring in Goslar, Germany.

  2. 2002

    The Praemium Imperiale

    In 2002 the Japan Art Association in Tokyo awarded Polke the Praemium Imperiale.

  3. 2002

    His first “machine paintings”

    In 2002 Polke developed a technique of “machine painting”: images were tinted and altered on a computer and photographically transferred onto large sheets of fabric. Until then he had rejected mechanical processes, exploring their visual effects by hand.

  5. 2003–2004

    Solo show at Tate Modern

    In his last years Polke's achievements were recognised in large-scale exhibitions worldwide, with solo shows at Tate Modern in London (2003–2004) and Tokyo's Ueno Royal Museum (2005).
