    The pseudonym A. R. Penck and candidacy for the artists’ association

    Winkler becomes a candidate for membership of the Association of Plastic Artists, now under the artistic pseudonym A. R. Penck, chosen after the geologist Albrecht Penck.

    A small role in Böttcher’s film Vintage 45

    He has a small acting role in the film Vintage 45 (1966), directed by Jürgen Böttcher, his early teacher.

    Two exhibitions in Cologne galleries

    In 1968 two exhibitions of Penck’s work are held in Cologne: “Deutsche Avantgarde 3: A. R. Penck, Bilder” at Galerie Hake and “A. R. Penck: Erstes Training mit Standart” at Galerie Michael Werner.

  4. from 1969

    Growing trouble with the GDR’s state security

    From 1969 Penck has increasing problems with the Ministry of State Security of the GDR: his paintings are confiscated and his membership in the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR (VBK) is rejected.
