Meanwhile, in the life of Cindy Sherman

The whole life
  1. 2006

    Advertisements for Marc Jacobs

Sherman created a series of fashion advertisements for the designer Marc Jacobs, photographed by Juergen Teller and published as a monograph by Rizzoli. She worked with Teller again on Marc Jacobs' Spring/Summer 2024 campaign.

  2. 2006–2007

A retrospective: Bregenz, Louisiana, Jeu de Paume

A major travelling retrospective of Sherman's work was organised by the Kunsthaus Bregenz, the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark and the Jeu de Paume in Paris.

  3. 2007

Photographs selling for over a million dollars

From 2007 single photographs by Sherman have sold at Christie's, Sotheby's and Phillips for more than $1 million.

  4. 2007–2011

    A relationship with David Byrne

Sherman was in a relationship with the artist David Byrne; in 2009 the two sat together on the jury of Portugal's Estoril Film Festival.

  5. 2009

“The Pictures Generation” at the Met

Sherman was included in the seminal exhibition “The Pictures Generation, 1974–1984” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art; she is counted in that generation alongside Laurie Simmons, Louise Lawler and Barbara Kruger.

  6. 2010

Iceland: landscapes during a volcanic eruption

Sherman photographed the landscapes for her 2012 series of large pictures in Iceland during the eruptions of Eyjafjallajökull and on Capri; before them stand outsized, enigmatic female figures based on a 32-page insert she made for POP magazine in vintage clothes from Chanel's archive.
