    An editor at Fortune

    Shortly afterward Evans becomes an editor at Fortune, where he stays through 1965.

  2. 1964

    A Yale lecture: “Lyric Documentary”

    In a lecture at Yale University Evans describes his own style as “Lyric Documentary”.

  3. 1965

    Professor of photography at the Yale School of Art

    In 1965 Evans becomes a professor of photography on the faculty for graphic design at the Yale University School of Art.

  4. 1966

    The book “Many Are Called” is published

    The 1938 subway photographs are collected in book form as “Many Are Called”.

  5. early 1971

    The first definitive retrospective at MoMA

    In early 1971 the first definitive retrospective of Evans's photographs, simply titled “Walker Evans” and selected by John Szarkowski, goes on view at New York's Museum of Modern Art.
