Meanwhile, in the life of Félix Edouard Vallotton

The whole life
  1. 1900s

Exhibitions across Europe and in Russia

In the 1900s Vallotton's exhibitions met with triumph in Vienna, Munich, Zurich, Prague, London and Stockholm; his works were also shown in Moscow, St Petersburg, Kiev, Odessa and Amsterdam.

  2. 23 March 1910

“Paints like a policeman”: a Zurich review

A critic in the Neue Zürcher Zeitung complained that Vallotton “paints like a policeman”, that everything in his work “creaks with an intolerable dryness” and his colours lack all joy. The severity of his style was often criticised, though his truthfulness and technique were respected.

  3. 1912

    Declines the Legion of Honour

The French government offered Vallotton the Legion of Honour, but, like his fellow Nabis Bonnard and Vuillard, he declined.
