It belongs to the collection, but is not on display at present.
This ivory statuette of the Virgin and Child was made in ca. 1650 in the Netherlands or in France by an unknown artist. The statuette is carved from one large piece of ivory. In style it is analogous to Italianate sculpture of the seventeenth century, such as the work of Alessandro Algardi (1598-1654) or François Du Quesnoy, recalling for example Du Quesnoy's celebrated statue of St Susanna in Sta Maria die Loreto in Rome. The heavy folds of the drapery and facial features suggest is by a Netherlandish artist or possibly a French sculptor, perhaps influenced by the work of Jacques Sarrazin (1592-1660), whose figure style is similar.
