  2. 1917–1924

    Summers at Vaucresson

From 1917 to 1924 he spends every summer at Vaucresson, in a house rented with his mother, and paints a series of landscapes of the area.

  3. 1920s

    Society portraits

After 1920 he is increasingly occupied with portraits of wealthy and distinguished Parisians — Sacha Guitry, the fashion designer Jeanne Lanvin, her daughter the Countess Marie-Blanche de Polignac, the inventor Marcel Kapferer — usually in their studios, homes or backstage, preferring distemper on canvas.

  4. 1920s

Care for the actress Lucie Belin

Vuillard had a long relationship with the actress Lucie Belin; when she fell ill in the 1920s, he arranged a pension for her.
