Marries Mayken Coecke and moves to Brussels
He moved from Antwerp to Brussels and married Mayken Coecke, daughter of Pieter Coecke van Aelst and Mayken Verhulst: the deposition for the marriage was registered on 25 July 1563 and the wedding took place in the Chapel Church in Brussels. According to van Mander, his mother-in-law pressed for the move to distance him from his long-standing mistress, a servant girl.

A son, Pieter, was born — the future Pieter Brueghel the Younger; the father died when both sons were very small, and their grandmother Mayken Verhulst trained them.
