    Chair of etching technique at the Bologna Academy

    His successes in etching during the 1920s allow him to head the chair of engraving technique at the Bologna Academy of Fine Arts, which he holds until 1956.

    Solo exhibition in Winterthur

    He travels to Winterthur for the opening of a solo exhibition and studies works by Chardin and Cézanne in the Oskar Reinhart Collection.

    His first trip to Paris

    He visits Paris for the first time, a trip he had dreamed of since the early 1910s.

  5. 1957

    Grand Prize for painting at the São Paulo Biennial

    He wins the Grand Prize for painting at the São Paulo Biennial, four years after the Grand Prize for a series of etchings.

  6. late 1950s

    Trouble with his eyesight

    In one of his rare interviews he says that, because of serious problems with his eyesight, he now paints only four or five pictures a year.
