About the work

Situation documents a time-based experiment that Nakahashi devised. He began by sowing and watering a bed of seeds, then awaited germination. Before the seedlings emerged, he covered a portion of the bed at the center, inhibiting normal growth. This resulted in two distinct growth patterns: an outer ring of normal germination encircling a stunted center. Commenting on his experiment, Nakahashi noted that while all the seeds were planted alike, conditions caused them to grow differently, much like our own lives.
