A solo exhibition in the Soviet Union
In 1932 a solo exhibition of her work was held in the Soviet Union.
1933
Forced to leave the Academy of Arts
After the Nazis came to power she was forced to resign her place at the Academy of Arts, accused of “cultural Bolshevism”, following her support of the Dringender Appell (Urgent Appeal).

Her work is removed from museums
Her work was removed from museums; although she was banned from exhibiting, one of her “mother and child” pieces was used by the Nazis for propaganda.
1936
An unofficial ban on exhibiting her work
In 1936 exhibiting her work was unofficially forbidden.

A Gestapo visit: the threat of arrest and a camp
In July 1936 she and her husband were visited by the Gestapo, who threatened her with arrest and deportation to a concentration camp; they resolved to commit suicide if such a prospect became inevitable. But Kollwitz was by now a figure of international note, and no further action was taken.
