    Donates a self-portrait print to the library in his hometown

    He donates an original print of his Self Portrait to the public library in Monroe, Washington, his hometown.

  2. 2003–2016

    The touring exhibition “Process and Collaboration”

    Chuck Close Prints: Process and Collaboration, organized by the Blaffer Gallery at the University of Houston and curated by Terrie Sultan, tours the world until 2016, with stops including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Miami Art Museum, the Museum der Moderne Salzburg, White Cube in London and the Museum of Contemporary Art Sydney, which Close visits in December 2014.

    Philip Glass writes a musical portrait of Close

    The composer Philip Glass writes a musical portrait of Close, a 15-minute piece for solo piano, the idea of the pianist Bruce Levingston, who commissions it through the Premiere Commission and performs it at a recital at Alice Tully Hall that year.

    At Sotheby’s, John (1971) sells for $4,300,000, the most expensive of his works sold at auction; on the same day Eric (1990) sells for $2,700,000.

    The retrospective Chuck Close Paintings: 1968/2006 opens at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid and travels to the Ludwig Forum für Internationale Kunst in Aachen and the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg.
