The whole lifeaged 18 (1901 – 1902)
Studies at Sèvres and the Académie Humbert
At 18 she studies porcelain painting at Sèvres, then returns to Paris and enters the Académie Humbert, where she switches to oil painting and meets Georges Braque; later, alongside painting, she studies engraving with Jean-Émile Laboureur.
1905
Death of her father
Her father, the fiscal administrator Alfred-Stanislas Toulet, who had visited her in childhood and paid for her education, dies.
1907
Salon des Indépendants on Roché's advice
On the advice of Henri-Pierre Roché, Marie exhibits at the Salon des Indépendants.
1907–1912
Meeting and affair with Apollinaire
In 1907 Picasso introduces her to the poet Guillaume Apollinaire; their passionate affair lasts until 1912, he dedicates poems to her, and she is often identified as his muse.
