Meanwhile, in the life of Henri Michaux

The whole life
  1. 1940s and 1950s

    Association with Tachisme

In the 1940s and 1950s he is associated with Tachisme, though that describes only a small part of his artistic achievement, such as his hallucinatory representations of faces and heads; his work often uses dense, suggestively gestural strokes that incorporate calligraphy, asemic writing and abstract expressionism.

  2. 11 July 1959 – 11 October 1959

    Exhibition: Documenta II

  3. 1960

    Prize at the Venice Biennale

He wins a prize at the 1960 Venice Biennale, after which, in 1964, the first worldwide retrospective of his paintings and graphic work opens.

  4. 1963

Lutosławski sets his poems to music

Witold Lutosławski composes “Three Poems of Henri Michaux” for mixed choir and orchestra; in 1965 the French composer Henri Sauguet writes three pieces for voice.
