Mobilization for the First World War
In 1914 he was mobilized and, until his demobilization in 1919, had almost no time for painting; he served as an ordinary soldier.

Designs for Diaghilev's Ballet La Boutique fantasque
At the invitation of Sergei Diaghilev he created designs for the sets and costumes of the ballet La Boutique fantasque, choreographed by Léonide Massine; its success brought new theatrical commissions.
1928
Carnegie Prize and International Exhibitions
He received the Carnegie Prize for Still Life with Game and began exhibiting widely abroad — in London, Berlin, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, New York, and Cincinnati. The 1920s marked the peak of his success.
1930s
Move to Chambourcy
In the 1930s he sold all his property in Paris and moved to Chambourcy, keeping only a studio in the capital.
