Meanwhile, in the life of James Rosenquist

The whole life
  1. 1963

A second Green Gallery show and “Young Talent USA”

In 1963 Rosenquist had his second solo exhibition at the Green Gallery and was selected for Art in America’s “Young Talent USA”.

  2. 1964

    Meets Andy Warhol

Critics grouped Rosenquist with the Pop artists because he used recognisable imagery, but he did not meet Andy Warhol until 1964 and did not know Warhol or Roy Lichtenstein very well: in his words, they all emerged separately.

  3. 1965

First visit to Russia: a private trip to Leningrad

In 1965 Rosenquist visited Russia for the first time, flying privately to Leningrad to see his friend Evgeny Rukhin.

  4. 1966

Three solo shows: Paris, New York, Rome

In 1966 solo exhibitions of Rosenquist’s work were held at the Ileana Sonnabend gallery in Paris, the Leo Castelli Gallery in New York and the Gallery of Modern Art in Rome.
