May one see it?
London, United Kingdom
It belongs to the collection, but is not on display at present.
This marble relief showing an elderly naked man seated frontally with legs apart on a low bench, is perhaps by Tommaso Cazzinga (active 1486-99) and was made ca. in 1475-1500 in Milan.
It appears to represent Prometheus who in Greek mythology created man from clay. This act was seen as the pagan precursor to the Christian story. The relief was designed to be inserted into a pilaster on a monument.
