Kleding: wambuis* en kolder,* hoge lubbenkraag* en wijd vallende kniebroek*. Kort kapsel, puntbaardje* en snor*.

Ihle p. 20, nr. 50: Jacques de la Faille draagt een kuras, dat verticaal over de borst tot een richel is toegespitst, wat de vorm va de in deze jaren ganzeborst begrijpelijk maakt. Zijn pofbroek is zeer wijd geworden en gaat door tot de knie.

    Marriage to a wealthy widow

    At 21 he married a wealthy widow considerably older than himself. The "unequal marriage" gave him economic independence: he bought a house, opened his own engraving workshop, and two years later took on two apprentices.
