Abraham Gorlaeus (van Goorle) (1549-1609), verzamelaar van antieke munten en gemmen, zittend aan een tafel, schrijvend in een boek. Een boekenkast tegen de achterwand. Linksboven zijn familiewapen. In Oud Holland (zie documentatie) is gesteld dat de geportretteerde niet Abraham, maar diens broer David (1550-1612) is.

The whole life1579
Marriage to a wealthy widow
At 21 he married a wealthy widow considerably older than himself. The "unequal marriage" gave him economic independence: he bought a house, opened his own engraving workshop, and two years later took on two apprentices.
