  1. 1512

    In Mantua

    Dossi is known to have been in Mantua in 1512; he may have trained there or with Lorenzo Costa.

  2. 1514

    Enters the service of the Este dukes

    Becomes principal court artist to the Este dukes of Ferrara, Alfonso I and Ercole II; other accounts date his post as official court painter to 1516. For the dukes he designs interiors and furniture, theatre sets and festival decorations, and besides painting carries out diplomatic errands.

  3. August 1542
