The whole life1848
Marriage to Julia Graves
In 1848 Aivazovsky marries the Englishwoman Julia Graves, a governess and the daughter of a staff doctor in the Russian army; they will have four daughters.

The Shakh-Mamai estate
In 1848 the emperor grants Aivazovsky the Shakh-Mamai estate, 25 kilometres from Feodosia — at first 2,500 desiatins with an Eastern-style house; by the end of his life it grows to 6,000 desiatins with a dairy farm and a steam mill. The estates bring the painter more income than the sale of his paintings.
