Meanwhile, in the life of Philippe Halsman

The whole life
  1. 1958

Named among the world’s ten greatest photographers

Popular Photography magazine lists him among the “World’s Ten Greatest Photographers”.

  2. 1959

    Publishes “Philippe Halsman’s Jump Book”

The book contains a tongue-in-cheek discussion of “jumpology” and 178 photographs of celebrity jumpers. This is the name he gave to his philosophy of jump photography: when you ask a person to jump, his attention goes to the act of jumping, the mask falls, and the real person appears.

  3. 1960 · Award

    Golden Plate Award

  4. 1961

Publishes “Halsman on the Creation of Photographic Ideas”

The book sets out six rules for producing unusual photographs: the direct approach, the unusual technique, the added unusual feature, the missing feature, compounded features and the literal or ideographic method.
