The whole life1777
Returns to Rome because of ill health
Because of illness — he tolerated the cold Madrid winters badly — Mengs returned to Rome in 1777.

Death in Rome in poverty: twenty children
Two years after his return from Spain Mengs died in Rome in poor circumstances, leaving twenty children; he was buried in the church of Santi Michele e Magno.
