Le thème représenté est la Visitation, figurée sur la terrasse de la maison du peintre, la villa Silencio, à Perros-Guirec, dont la baie de Trestrignel sert de toile de fond à la scène et occupe une grande partie de l'espace. Ce tableau est une première version du tableau peint en 1909, intitulé également Magnificat, et qui est actuellement conservé au Musée de Saint-Germain-en-Laye.
