Poster Commission for the Newly Opened Moulin Rouge
With the opening of the Moulin Rouge cabaret in 1889, Toulouse-Lautrec received a commission for a series of posters; the cabaret reserved a table for him and displayed his paintings, and the poster work gave him an income of his own.

A Duel Challenge in Defense of Van Gogh
At the banquet of the Les XX exhibition in Brussels, Lautrec challenged the painter Henry de Groux to a duel after he disparaged Van Gogh's works; de Groux apologized and left the group, and the duel never took place.
