Fracture of the Right Femur
At the age of thirteen, while rising from a chair, Henri broke the neck of his right femur.
August 1879
Fracture of the Left Femur: His Legs Stopped Growing
Falling into a ditch, Henri fractured the neck of his left femur. After this incident his legs ceased to grow; the fractures healed poorly, which modern physicians attribute to a hereditary disorder.

Eleven Works at the Les XX Exhibition in Brussels
At the invitation of the Belgian critic Octave Maus, Lautrec presented eleven works at the exhibition of the group Les XX in Brussels; Theo van Gogh bought the painting "Rice Powder" for 150 francs for the Goupil & Cie gallery.

Poster Commission for the Newly Opened Moulin Rouge
With the opening of the Moulin Rouge cabaret in 1889, Toulouse-Lautrec received a commission for a series of posters; the cabaret reserved a table for him and displayed his paintings, and the poster work gave him an income of his own.

Collapse and Three Months in a Sanatorium
By February 1899 his alcoholism had taken its toll: Lautrec collapsed from exhaustion, and his family placed him for three months in the Folie Saint-James sanatorium at Neuilly-sur-Seine, where he drew 39 circus portraits.
