    The album of engravings Theatrum Pictorium ("Theatre of Painting") was published in Brussels — in essence, the first illustrated catalogue of a private painting collection in history.

    Purchase of the Drij Toren Castle

    He acquired the castle of Drij Toren ("Three Towers") near Vilvoorde from Helena Fourment, Rubens's widow, and her second husband; the castle became the artist's summer residence.
