Альбом состоял из трех выпусков, по четыре литографированных рисунка в каждом, напечатанных в литографии Поль Пети. «Святые шестидесятые». Живопись, графика, скульптура. СПб. 2002. С. 344.
1861 год был отмечен выпуском «Русского художественного альбома» в столичной литографии Поля Пети. Издание было предпринято Обществом поощрения художников (1861), ставившем своей целью с помощью литографии распространять сведения об отечественной живописи во всей России. Всего вышло три выпуска альбома, в каждом из которых Шишкин опубликовал свои литографии: « Вечер » , «Лес» и «Вид с берегов Ладоги».

In the years following Dubki he traveled with Gine and Dzhogin to Valaam Island on Lake Ladoga; these trips honed his skill in rendering nature precisely with brush and pencil.

Academy Fellowship Abroad: Munich
As a stipendiary of the Academy he went to Munich, where he visited the studios of the popular animal painters, the brothers Benno and Franz Adam.

Zurich: With Koller, First Etchings
He moved to Zurich, where under the guidance of Rudolf Koller he painted animals from life and first tried engraving with aqua regia; from there he made an excursion to Geneva to see the works of Diday and Calame.
