Collapse and Three Months in a Sanatorium
By February 1899 his alcoholism had taken its toll: Lautrec collapsed from exhaustion, and his family placed him for three months in the Folie Saint-James sanatorium at Neuilly-sur-Seine, where he drew 39 circus portraits.

Stroke and Paralysis of the Legs
In March 1901 a stroke paralyzed Lautrec's legs and confined him to a wheelchair.

Second Stroke at Taussat
On 15 August 1901, while staying at Taussat, Lautrec suffered a stroke that left him hemiplegic; less than a month later he died at the family château of Malromé.
