Meanwhile, in the life of Josef Albers

The whole life
  1. 1954–1973

Fireplaces and façades with the architect King-lui Wu

Albers created decorative designs for buildings by the Yale professor and architect King-lui Wu: geometric fireplaces for the Rouse (1954) and DuPont (1959) houses, the façade of the Manuscript Society, a Yale secret senior society (1962), and a design for Mt. Bethel Baptist Church (1973).

  2. 1962

    A Graham Foundation grant

As a fellow at Yale, Albers received a grant from the Graham Foundation for an exhibition and lecture on his work.

  3. 1963

    Publishes “Interaction of Color”

The book records an experiential way of studying and teaching colour: Albers held that colour “is almost never seen as it really is” and that “colour deceives continually”. The very rare first edition of 2,000 copies contained 150 silkscreen plates; the book is considered a seminal work of colour theory.
