The whole life
  1. late 1630s – early 1640s

    Lessons with Savery and de Molijn

    According to Arnold Houbraken, in the late 1630s and early 1640s Everdingen took lessons from Roelant Savery in Utrecht and from Pieter de Molijn (Tempesta) in Haarlem.

  2. 1644

    Journey to Norway and Sweden

    In 1644 Everdingen traveled to Norway and Sweden: according to Houbraken, his ship took shelter there from a storm. Studies from nature of rocks and waterfalls set a new course for his art and formed the basis of his Scandinavian landscapes.

  3. 1645

    Master of the Haarlem Guild of Saint Luke

    In 1645 Everdingen was admitted as a master to the Haarlem Guild of Saint Luke, and subsequently worked in Alkmaar and Haarlem.

  4. February 1645

    Marriage to Janneke Cornelisdr

    Having returned to the Netherlands by 21 February 1645, Everdingen married Janneke Cornelisdr Brouwers in Haarlem.

  5. 16 February 1646

    Son born: Cornelis van Everdingen

  6. 1652

    Move to Amsterdam

    From 1652 until his death Everdingen worked in Amsterdam. The waterfalls in the foregrounds of his paintings led to the artist being called the "inventor of cascades."
