    French occupation and the Madrid uprising

    Spain was occupied by the French and an uprising broke out in Madrid; Goya remained in Madrid throughout the war, which affected him deeply.

  3. June 1812

    Death of his wife Josefa

    Goya was widowed: his wife Josefa Bayeu died. The subsequent division of property with his son Javier became the principal source of information about the artist's daily life.

  4. 1815–1816

    The etching series "La Tauromaquia"

    He created a new series of 33 etchings on bullfighting, "La Tauromaquia," published in Madrid in 1816.
