    Follows Diana Vreeland to Vogue

    In 1962 Diana Vreeland, whom Avedon admires, leaves Harper’s Bazaar for Vogue; in 1965 (other accounts say 1966) he follows her there as a staff photographer and works at the magazine until 1990.

    First major retrospective in Minneapolis

    Avedon’s first major retrospective is held at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.

  3. 1970

    Buys a former carriage house on the Upper East Side

    Avedon buys a former carriage house on the Upper East Side of Manhattan that will serve as both his studio and his apartment.
