About the sculpture

The sculpture is close in style to a number of terracottas produced in Florence in the early fifteenth century, including the 'Seated Virgin and Child' related to the workshop of Lorenzo Ghiberti. The sculpture was originally painted, and traces of pigmentation still survive.
