His eldest son, Gordon Parks Jr., is killed
Gordon Parks Jr., whose talents resembled his father’s, is killed in a plane crash in Kenya, where he had gone to direct a film.

Divorces Genevieve Young
His shortest marriage, lasting six years, ends in divorce, but Parks and Young remain close friends until his death. He is also in a long-term relationship with Gloria Vanderbilt until the end of his life.
