Серов Александр Валентинович (1893–1960) учился в Политехническом институте, инженер-судостроитель, в годы первой мировой войны был летчиком, после революции жил за рубежом.

Серов Георгий (Юрий) Валентинович (1894–1932) учился вместе с М. А. Чеховым и Ю. А. Завадским, артист Первой студии Московского Художественного театра, руководимой Е. Б. Вахтанговым. После революции жил в Германии и Франции, где приобрел известность, как кинорежиссер. Картина была написана на даче В. В. Матэ близ Териок. Русский музей. От иконы до современности. СПб. 2015. С . 244.

Картина изображает сыновей художника — семилетнего Сашу и пятилетнего Юру — на террасе дачного дома в поселке Ино на берегу Финского залива. Со свойственным художнику чутким проникновением во внутренний мир ребенка Серов показывает трогательную чистоту, непосредственность душевных движений мальчиков, серьезность их переживания, созвучного состоянию природы. Это одновременно и портрет, и бытовая сценка, хотя и лишенная сюжетного действия. Простота, естественность, мягкая лиричность отличают как характеристику детей, так и пейзажную часть картины.

    Takes the life-drawing studio despite an earlier refusal

    In late summer 1897 Serov accepted the offer to run the life-drawing studio at the Moscow School of Painting, although in 1894 he had written to Chistyakov that he did not like teaching and had turned down such an offer. His pupils included Kuznetsov, Sapunov, Saryan, Petrov-Vodkin, Ulyanov and Yuon; Levitan began teaching at the school at the same time.

    Diaghilev’s exhibition: 15 works at the Stieglitz Museum

    At the exhibition of Russian and Finnish artists organised by Sergei Diaghilev at Baron Stieglitz’s museum in St. Petersburg, Serov was represented by 15 works.

  4. 23 March 1898

    Awarded the title of academician

    On 23 March 1898 the general meeting of the Academy of Arts, on the proposal of Mathé, Repin and Chistyakov, awarded Serov the title of academician.

  5. 1900

    The Grand Medal of Honour at the Paris World’s Fair

    For his portrait of Grand Duke Pavel Alexandrovich at the World’s Fair in Paris, which Serov visited with his wife in October, he was awarded the Grand Medal of Honour.

  6. late 1901

    Stops working for the imperial court

    At the end of 1901 Empress Alexandra Feodorovna interfered with Serov’s work on yet another portrait of Nicholas II, and he stopped working for the imperial court.
