The whole life1966
Grand Prize for Painting at the Venice Biennale
For the Biennale Fontana designs the environment for his work himself — he has become increasingly interested in the staging of his work and in the idea of purity achieved in his last white canvases — and is awarded the Grand Prize for Painting.

First solo show at an American museum
Fontana’s first solo exhibition at an American museum is held at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis.
1968
“Spatial Environment in White” at Documenta IV
At Documenta IV in Kassel Fontana positions a large plaster slash at the centre of a totally white labyrinth, including ceiling and floor — “Ambiente spaziale bianco”.

Leaves Milan for Comabbio
Fontana leaves his home in Milan and goes to Comabbio (in the province of Varese), his family’s hometown, where he dies the same year.

Present at the “Destruction Art” demonstration
Shortly before his death Fontana is present at the “Destruction Art, Destroy to Create” demonstration at the Finch College Museum in New York.
