About the work
Cornell Capa traveled to the Soviet Union in 1958 on assignments from Life and Harper’s Bazaar. He spent two hours at the Bolshoi Ballet School, which he photographed for the latter magazine. Dancers practice before a mirror, using it as a potential learning and teaching aid, in what Capa later called “the best-known picture of my career.”
