A painter, draughtsman and printmaker of the German Renaissance, Leonhard Beck (1480–1542) was born and died in Augsburg. Museums hold about 95 of his works, mostly woodcuts, in Cooper Hewitt, the Slovak National Gallery, the Albertina, Yale, the Kunsthistorisches Museum and SMK. The saints Remigius and Guntramus date from 1510. From 1512–1516 come scenes of the emperor's life: Maximilian and Mary of Burgundy teaching each other their languages, and The Young White King at the Butts. His Imperial Trumpeters of 1526 survive in an 1883–1884 printing. One is on view.
