Der Spargel, auch Ein einzelner Spargel oder Spargel, (französisch L’asperge) ist ein 1880 in Öl auf Leinwand gemaltes Stillleben von Édouard Manet. Es hat eine Höhe von 16,5 cm und eine Breite von 21,5 cm. Das im Stil des Impressionismus gemalte Bild zeigt eine einzelne Spargelstange auf einer Marmorplatte. Manet malte das Bild als Geschenk an seinen Freund Charles Ephrussi. Es gehört zur Sammlung des Musée d’Orsay in Paris.

Although his own work influenced and anticipated the Impressionist style, Manet resisted involvement in Impressionist exhibitions: he did not wish to be seen as the representative of a group identity and held that modern artists should seek to exhibit at the Salon.

The first attack of rheumatism and ataxia
In September 1879 Manet suffered his first acute attack of rheumatism; it soon turned out that he had ataxia, a disorder of movement coordination. The illness progressed rapidly and limited his creative possibilities.
