A trip to the USSR with Steinbeck

Capa suggested to John Steinbeck, whom he had met again in New York, that they go to the post-war Soviet Union together and make a book; he took photographs in Moscow, Kyiv, Tbilisi, Batumi and among the ruins of Stalingrad.

In 1947 General Dwight D. Eisenhower awarded Capa the Medal of Freedom for his work recording the Second World War in pictures.

Capa toured Israel during its founding, while it was being attacked by neighbouring states; his photographs accompanied Irwin Shaw’s book Report on Israel.

  6. 1951 or 1952
