Über das Gemälde

Jin Yongxi described this work as painted in the spirit (biyi) of Gao Kegong, whose landscapes helped shape later literati conceptions of mist-laden mountain scenery—biyi signaling an attempt to capture an artist’s expressive manner and aesthetic sensibility rather than a specific composition. The contrast between monumental mountains and vaporous spaces creates a sense of emergence and transformation, evoking the title, while delicate mineral colors, softened contours, and atmospheric washes recall the poetic lyricism associated with Gao Kegong’s landscapes. Through this reinterpretation, Jin transforms the scene into a vision of nature suspended between solidity and vapor, where the visible world unfolds gradually from the realm of mist.
