Saul Steinberg gently mocks small town or suburban fashion in this view of a bus stop queue. Side-laced pants, bare midriff, platform heels, and lace bodices come under his gaze. Compared to the decked-out women, the men are a sartorial null set; yet, only the men are shown speaking. Are they, too, commenting on the women’s attire?
