The stark geometry of Adomeit’s late career linocut technique pictured here is visually similar to works by artists who also frequented Monhegan Island, such as painter Edward Hopper. Ruth Adomeit, the artist’s daughter, recalls that this image was likely made for a Christmas card. Although George Adomeit’s passion for art began forty years before this print, it would still be ten more years, in 1956, until he retired from business and pursued painting full-time.
