London: contacts with Mondrian and Gabo
In 1933–1939 Nicholson lives in London and keeps up creative contacts with Piet Mondrian and Naum Gabo; Mondrian’s neoplastic style, which he first met on visits to Paris, steers him in an abstract direction.

Moves with Hepworth to St Ives
In 1939 Nicholson moves with his wife, the sculptor Barbara Hepworth, to the Cornish town of St Ives, where they found a centre of abstract art; he lives for 19 years at Trezion, Salubrious Place.
1943
Joins the St Ives Society of Artists
In 1943 Nicholson joins the St Ives Society of Artists.
