Robert Gibbings (1889–1958), an Irish-born British illustrator, sculptor and painter, came from Cork, studied at the Central School of Art and Design and died in Oxford. Nearly 40 of his works, mostly relief prints, are in the Yale Center for British Art, the National Gallery of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the V&A and Harvard. The Lost Anchor dates from 1936, and a series of illustrations was made for The Charm of Birds. Among the sculptures is a Tahitian woman of about 1929–1931. One is on view.
